This CM/GC project is located in the town of Del Norte, in southern central Colorado. The hospital serves Del Norte and the San Luis Valley. The project is an 11,200 SF expansion (three additions) and 9,200 SF renovations to the existing structure, with funding backed by the USDA.
Rio Grande Hospital had an ambitious program to expand the emergency department, administrative department, conference center, and clinical departments. To ensure budget adherence, the availability of materials and cost control were the driving factors in our project delivery. Along with sub-trade involvement, we constantly monitored current and projected construction costs. As a result, we modified the design as it progressed to avoid cost-cutting exercises at the end of the design. This strong collaboration resulted in a project that was on budget and schedule. In addition, early recognized project savings allowed the owner to add a “wishlist” scope of work within the original project schedule.
