ABOUT
Originally built in 1963 as an open-air ice rink on the Colorado College campus, Honnen Arena served the community for decades before permanently closing its doors in 2021. In a visionary transformation, Colorado College partnered with GH Phipps to reimagine the 27,000 SF structure as a vibrant home for the college’s 3D Arts department.
The $5.5 million renovation project was completed in 2023 and now provides state-of-the-art facilities for students, faculty, and visiting artists to explore sculpture, design, papermaking, and other disciplines. The updated space features classrooms, offices, workshops, and gallery areas, creating a dynamic environment for creativity and collaboration.
The project also included significant upgrades to the building’s mechanical and plumbing systems, as well as enhancements to the exterior glazing, ensuring both functionality and sustainability for years to come.
