ABOUT
In response to the growing healthcare needs of families in Northern Colorado and Southern Wyoming, Children’s Hospital Colorado implemented a 210,000 SF greenfield expansion of their existing 47,000 SF multi-specialty clinic, urgent care, and surgery center in Broomfield, CO, transforming the facility into a pediatric hospital with more than 120,000 SF dedicated to outpatient care services.
The design-build project included a five-story medical office building and outpatient clinic along with an expanded urgent and emergency care area, the addition of 24 inpatient rooms, a sleep study lab, space for community and educational programming, sterile processing facilities, and a pharmacy. To accommodate the new facilities, the project also included an addition to the central utility plant and corresponding infrastructure services.
As the general contractor, GH Phipps coordinated with its design-build partners to overcome challenges such as unforeseen soil issues and maintaining hospital operations during construction. In 2024, the team was recognized with a DBIA Design Excellence Award for their hard work, ingenuity, and commitment to making a difference through engineering and collaborative efforts.
