The Tivoli Student Center is a full-service student center including administrative offices, bookstore, food courts, restaurants, copy center, and approximately 20 vendors. Our project involved primarily revitalizing the existing facility while keeping the entire facility in operation. While some of this revitalization included exterior skin restoration, the bulk of the project involved complete replacement of the existing mechanical and electrical system with a new system as well as the construction a new loading dock.
With activity at the Tivoli from 6:00 am until well after midnight every day, and substantial scaffold work on the part of the GH Phipps construction team, safety was a prime consideration. To protect students and visitors from potential hazards, plenty of signage, barricades, cones and warning tapes were employed to keep people aware of hazards and away from danger. Scaffold training, 100% tie-off, regular safety meetings and on-site reviews produced the desired results; no injuries to students, visitors or workers, and no lost time due to accidents.
