Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms Robert & Judi Newman Welcome Center

ABOUT

GH Phipps served as the general contractor for Phase One of Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms’ multi-phase Master Development Plan, an initiative that created a more accessible, engaging, and sustainable destination for visitors and the community.

Completed in 2025, this $13.2 million phase marks a major milestone in the evolution of Chatfield Farms. At the heart of the project is the newly constructed Robert and Judi Newman Welcome Center, a 3,800-square-foot facility that now serves as the main entry point to the site. The Welcome Center features guest services including ticketing, a gift shop with snacks and beverages, and public restrooms—all designed to streamline the visitor arrival experience and support growing attendance.

The phase also includes construction of the Borgen Family Market Square, a vibrant outdoor plaza that replaces a former asphalt parking lot. Designed as a central gathering space, the Market Square creates a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the Gardens’ mission to connect people with plants, nature, and community.

Infrastructure improvements play a vital role in supporting the site’s long-term growth and environmental goals. Upgrades to site-wide water and sanitary sewer systems, expanded electrical capacity, and provisions for future solar installations lay the foundation for sustainable operations. A new entry drive and a 480-space parking lot significantly improve traffic flow and accessibility throughout the property.

GH Phipps brings decades of experience in delivering complex public projects and has partnered with Denver Botanic Gardens since the 1960s. This project was delivered under a design-build contract in collaboration with Wong Strauch Architects and Didier Design Studio, ensuring seamless integration between design intent and construction execution.

Phase One of the Master Development Plan represents a shared vision between GH Phipps, the Botanic Gardens, and the broader community—a vision rooted in sustainability, access, and the natural beauty that defines Chatfield Farms.
