Todd Ruff came to the profession via a traditional route: His father worked in construction, and Todd often spent time on job sites. After graduating Summa Cum Laude from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science degree, he joined GH Phipps Construction Companies’ Preconstruction Team, and has been in his current position of Director of Preconstruction Services for two years.
After six years at Phipps, Todd was elected to the company’s Board of Directors – at 28, the youngest member in Phipps’ history. He also has been named to ENR Mountain States magazine’s 2014 Top 20 Under 40 list, and has become increasingly involved as a volunteer with the CSU Construction Management program.
As Director of Preconstruction Services, Todd provides leadership overseeing multiple projects in multiple offices to ensure that every owner’s expectations are met and that consistent value is delivered to GH Phipps’ clients. He understands a client’s responsibilities: He owned and operated his own landscape maintenance business from middle school through college, a job that allowed him to pay for his education.
That experience has been valuable in overseeing complex projects that require a disciplined approach to staying on track in terms of budget and schedule. Major projects for which Todd has provided Preconstruction Services include the $143 million Children’s Hospital Colorado East Tower Addition, the $70 million Platte Valley Medical Center, and the $61 million Boulder Community Hospital, among many others.
“The Preconstruction process is such a great experience and a special opportunity to help guide our clients from their initial vision to their building’s opening. At GH Phipps, it’s not just about the tools and numbers we use, it’s truly about working with people, leading our clients to the correct conclusion, and making the whole process enjoyable and fulfilling. It’s also about understanding our clients’ needs and expectations up front and continually bringing value to them and their projects, while leading the entire project team to the right decisions in a creative and collaborative environment.”
Todd lives in Highlands Ranch with his wife and three children. He spends his time away from the office coaching his kids’ sports teams, traveling, attending sporting events, and fishing as much as possible.
