Like many of the top executives at GH Phipps, President Kurt Klanderud began his Phipps career inauspiciously. Hired as an estimator 26 years ago, he began working his way steadily up the ranks. Today, he serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors as well as overseeing preconstruction, business development, and strategic planning.
He says the culture at GH Phipps encourages loyalty and rewards hard work, explaining how he and others have been able to work their way up to leadership positions. From Estimator, his career included such other positions as Senior Estimator, Preconstruction Project Manager, Chief Estimator, Vice President of Preconstruction, and Senior Vice President, overseeing virtually everything except construction.
He holds a construction management degree from the University of Nebraska, where he minored in architecture.
He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Associated General Contractors, and a member of the Children’s Hospital Colorado’s Corporate Leadership Council. Kurt says attention to detail and paying keen attention to client needs are the keys to GH Phipps' success.
"That starts out on the line, with the people actually working on construction jobs. How they treat people is the key to this business. We honor our promises. We work openly and honestly with our clients. We build trusting relationships."
In his free time, he skateboards and plays in a men's hockey league. "It's a great release, but it's probably not something a man over 50 should do," he said, laughing.
